Mentor : Houston Pre-freshman Enrichment Program (Houston PREP), Summer 2012, Summer 2013. Served as co-mentor (along with J. Quander) for the Program Assistants (PA’s) in Houston PREP, a summer enrichment program for middle and high school students hosted by the Center for Computational Science and Advanced Distributed Simulation (CCSDS) at UH-Downtown. Responsibilities included meeting with PA’s on a weekly basis (and additionally as needed) to discuss and reflect on their roles in the program.

 

Academic Partner : UH-Downtown Start Right Program, Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Fall 2009-Spring 2010. Served as academic partner and mentor for UH-Downtown undergraduate student Tanya Martinez. Responsibilities included assisting student with utilizing college and campus resources, setting goals, and developing an action plan that will support academic success.

Doctoral Research: CAAM Department, Fall 1999-Spring 2004. Surveyed and analyzed past and current research of university course and final examination timetabling, and methods for attempting to solve such problems. Developed a mathematical and computational model for solving university timetabling problems based on graph coloring and the satisfaction of various "essential" and "preferential" timetabling conditions.

Mentor: Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate at Rice Program, Summer 2000. Advised undergraduate students with mathematics research projects. Taught linear algebra and computer science workshops for high school student groups.

 

Graduate Research: CAAM Department, Fall 1998-Spring 2004. Surveyed and analyzed past and current research regarding the graceful labeling of graphs. Developed two mathematical programming formulations (an integer programming formulation and a constraint programming formulation) for the graceful labeling problem. Obtained new theoretical and computational results on the gracefulness of three classes of graphs: generalized Petersen graphs, double cones, and a specific class of product graphs.

 

Graduate Research: CAAM Department, Summer 1998. Co-developed GPAT (Graph Processing and Analysis Toolkit) software package which includes such features as graph and multigraph editing, graph and clustering algorithms, algorithm animation, and documentation. Implemented Edmonds' Maximum Matching Algorithm to find a maximum cardinality matching in an undirected connected graph.

 

SYSTRA Consulting (formerly LS Transit Systems, Inc.), Lebanon, NH

Rail Operations Analyst: Winter 1996, Summer 1996. Processed and edited signal control lines for a graphics simulation for SEPTA's (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority's) improved commuter rail system. Co-developed software for this project and provided quality enhancements. Assisted in assembling a GIS Track Database for a graphics simulation for Amtrak's new High Speed Rail Configuration between New Haven, CT and Boston, MA.
