MATH 2401 – CALCULUS I

 

Textbook: Calculus (6th edition) by James Stewart, Thomson Brooks/Cole, ISBN-10: 0495011606.

 

Catalog description: This course provides a study of the concepts of differentiation and integration of algebraic and trigonometric functions and related problems. The topics include functions, limits, the derivatives of algebraic and trigonometric functions, curve sketching, applications of the derivative, and an introduction to the definite and indefinite integrals of algebraic and trigonometric functions.

 

Prerequisite: A grade of C or better in Math 1404 or Math 1505 or placement by exam taken at the UHD.

 

Grading policy:

 

HW 10% of the grade

HW is given after each class and will be due as announced – approximately every

other week. You are responsible to provide answers to each problem, however only several problems will be graded.

 

Three exams

There will be three in-class exams, each counts as 20% of the grade.

The exams will be announced at least one week in advance.

 

Final exam 

The comprehensive final exam counts as 30% of the grade.

It will be on Monday May 10th 10am-12:30pm.

 

A: 90-100,  B: 80-89,  C: 70-79,  D: 60-69,  F: 0-59

 

Office hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays 12pm-1pm

 

Help: There will be short reviews before each exam and the final exam. You are encouraged to ask questions in class and come to the office hours. Additional help is available at the Lab in 735S (9am - 7pm on Mondays through Thursdays, 9am - 3pm on Fridays).
